Arif Khan becomes the first Indian to qualify for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing – archyde

Alpine skiing Mohammad Arif Khan is the first Indian who can take part in the competitions Olympic Winter Games in Beijing 2022 by doing Slalom Event.

The 30-year-old Mohammad Arif Khan from the state of Jammu & Kashmir mainly takes part in the slalom competitions, but has also competed in the giant slalom.

Alpine skiing consists of five disciplines: Downhill, Super-G, Slalom, Giant Slalom and Combination.

Slalom skiing is the shortest alpine event all about skiing between sticks or gates where skiers have to make quick turns and quick changes of direction. Two laps are held and the ranking is made by adding the times of the two runs.

To qualify for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in slalom, the average of the five best results of the event between the period from July 1, 2019 to January 16, 2022 is taken into account.

For alpine skiers who have participated in fewer than five competitions during this period, an additional 20 percent of the average points will be added to the points list of the International Ski Federation (FIS).

Last week, Arif Khan took ninth, tenth and twice eleventh place in four slalom events at Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.

The four slalom events in Dubai were the only four competitions that Mohammad Arif Khan participated in during the qualification phase.

India had two representatives at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Jagdish Singh took part in the 15 km freestyle cross country event while Shiva Keshavan took part in the luge.

The 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing will take place from February 4th to 20th. The men’s slalom will take place on February 16.
