Victoria reports five Covid deaths and 1,166 cases as protests expected to escalate; William Tyrrell Quest on the sixth day – After Welt

Good morning, I’m Stephanie Convery and I will walk you through the news of the day so that those of you can get up early in the morning to read about it.

We expect protests outside Victoria Parliament to escalate today as anti-fascist activists vow to protest another wave of planned “freedom rallies” which they claim have been infiltrated by far-right groups. The protesters have been fighting against the Labor state government’s pandemic law for days.

A series of protests against vaccine mandates and Covid-19 restrictions were announced for Saturday in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart, as well as other regional centers, the details of which were shared via an encrypted social media platform.

The protests in Victoria ignited a heated back and forth between Victorian Prime Minister Daniel Andrews and Prime Minister Scott Morrison yesterday. Meanwhile, the Victorians welcomed the lifting of a number of Covid restrictions.

Elsewhere NSW expects wild weather this weekend – The state is preparing for further floods, with heavy rains devastating much of the east coast and possible thunderstorms striking Sydney.

We will keep an eye on developments as we re-examine William Tyrell; yesterday Detectives drained a stream and found a light blue piece of cloth sent for forensic investigation.

There are fears that a week-long Covid-19 outbreak in the Northern Territory, which has grown to 21 cases, has spread to two more indigenous communities.

Authorities have found virus fragments in sewage from Binjari, a community on the outskirts of the city of Katherine, 200 miles south of Darwin. Three close contacts have been identified in the remote community of Yuendumu, 1,600 km south of Darwin.

Greater Katherine and Robinson River are currently on a seven-day lockdown order scheduled to end late Monday.

And of course we will bring you all the latest Covid statistics as soon as they are published across the country.

Do you have your coffee Good. Let’s crash.
